Hotel George V Afternoon Tea

Have you walked inside the Hotel George V?
31, Avenue George V 75008

The flower bouquets throughout

Are simply to die for.

American florist Jeff Leatham has partnered with the George V

For the past 15 years since it was taken over by the Four Seasons and renovated.

His distinctive touch is everywhere.

The color theme changes every 5 weeks.

Flowers are refreshed hourly. The hotel's world famous restaurant Cinq is graced with his signature bouquets.

He has a new book coming out shortly. This book is from a few years ago. Do look at his Pinterest page. Wow!

My tea partner Rosemary (we visited Guerlain's 68 previously) picked a dessert from the trolley that was pom-pom shaped like Leatham's flowers.

A choux pastry filled with caramelized cream, pecans and touches of dark chocolate created by new pastry chef, Laurent Gautier.

We shared desserts. Rosemary came dressed appropriately in pink

To match the tapestry rugs in La Galeria.

And my pink champagne.

The High tea 'Celebration' 68 included champagne, tea, sandwiches, petit fours, and scones was 70€, definitely a splurge, but if it's your birthday or anniversary why not?

An afternoon of luxe, calm et volupté is in order non? We were guests of the hotel since it was no ones birthday.

Rosemary Flannery, an art historian, leads art tours in Paris and author of The Angels of Paris, so only she would know the divine cannele pastry means fluting.

Same as the fluting on a classical column.

After tea we got a grand tour of the hotel. The spa is instant serenity. Soothing aromas fill the hallways.

I've become obsessed with Parisian hotel elevator cages. The George V was built in 1928 and has decidedly Deco influences.

We got to see the absolute creme de la creme of hotel penthouses - room after room of luxury. Perfect for a dreamy honeymoon.

Inside and out on the terrace are views of the Eiffel Tower banked with Jeff Leatham white orchids. This painting in the penthouse perfectly captures the overall spirit of Hotel Georgs V. Lush and grand. Need I say more? Do stop in for a look and perhaps a tea in La Galeria.

Enjoyed every minute when I stayed there several nights on a business trip years ago. Room service was wonderful as well. The flowers and the room were divine. Glad nothing has changed and thanks for the memories!

  3. Ooh, la, la, la, la, la! This looks the best of all the marvelous teas you've been posting! Love all the flowers! We have a hotel in Baltimore called "The Admiral Fell Inn." Don't you think Jeff could write a perfect travel book called: "Georges V and The Admiral Fell Inn."

  4. How lovely to have been treated to tea at the fabulous George V. Elegant surroundings, and delicious tidbits to accompany the champagne.

    Definitely oooh la and la.

Carol, hoping you've received the NY Times article I emailed to you. Seemed to cover something you'd know more about.

Beautiful day in NYC today. Temps in the upper 70s, lower 80s, clear blue sky with puffy littly clouds. Central Park looking really overgrown. Not at all groomed in the French style. I admit that I sort of liked the wildness. Lack of humidity helped a lot.

  8. The post is beautiful, and a lovely record of tea (er, champagne!) enjoyed with you at the Georges V. And the 'doggie-bag' of pastries - amazing little American touch in an old-world setting. . .Thank you, merci beaucoup!

  9. I wonder if Laurent Gauthier is the young chef we are watching on Qui Sera le Prochain Grand Chef Patissier?
Love that show! We both do..and I think of you:)
It's the second season..we only just found out about it and have seen the first 2 epis..
What talent these chefs have.LG was only 23 when he appeared and only 3 yrs experience and he shone!
    If it's him:)

  16. Oh my dear ... This is a most fabulous post. Just beautifully exotic in every way. I do love the china, as I love china of all kinds. The colors in the dining room just scream luxury.

Can you imagine what a room costs (a regular room) is tea is that much? I don't remember that hotel being in the unaffordable category 30 years ago, always nice and upscale ... But I think the renovation took them up a few levels. I can understand, there is so much global wealth now that they might as well cash in.

  22. If I ate one of the choux by Laurent Gautier, I believe I would think I had died and gone to heaven--its ingredients are right up my alley--not to mention what might have happened had I stayed in the penthouse bedroom. Sigh.
